In an extraordinary public showdown, President Donald Trump fired the acting attorney general of the United States after she publicly questioned the constitutionality of his refugee and immigration ban and refused to defend it in court.

There are a number of people in Iraq who have worked for us in a partnership role, whether fighting alongside us or working as translators, often doing so at great peril to themselves

Heads are rolling... That's what he's good at. Firing people because he doesn't want anybody contesting his ideas.

We need more people who will dare to stand up for what is right and not what is ordered. Good for you Sally!

The White House certainly seems power crazy. I don't remember anything like this happening before. Where are our three branches of the government system of checks and balances?

Fired for"betrayal" according to the statement. 30-year career attorney in the US Justice dept. Unreal.

If someone working for you, tells their employees to defy you ... of course you get fired. People who are angry or surprised by this are confusing. Not saying I agree or disagree with the policy ... but it's not a Senator we're talking about who is in no way beholden to a POTUS, the AG reports to him.

Courage, Dana. It's up to you now. Think about whether you want to take your stand now - because you now know for sure that ANY time you disagree with any aspect of one of Trump's executive orders, you'll be fired then. Take a stand for the Justice Department's independence and values.

Trumps order is legal. How dare her pick and choose what legal orders to enforce based on her personal views. Those cheering this are the dumbest of the dumb. What kind of a Country would this be if all officials chose to act on their opinions versus enforce the law? Would it be OK if cops started injecting their own system of justice and disregarded the law? Unhinged liberals are off the charts out of your minds.

Any Twumpladites wanna own this clusterfuck? Would it help to know that the Executive Tweeter didn't include the country where the majority of the 9/11 murderers came from? Naah, didn't think so. Sorry to bother you. You can stick yer head back up yer echo chamber now. Have a nice day.

She was going to be replaced anyhow. But she wasn't going to leave without a big statement first. :-) She stood for what is right!

For those saying she should have followed orders...you know which criminals used that as a defense, following orders, right? I don't have to say it, do I?

Questioning your boss when ethics are at stake is the right thing to do. She took the moral high road. Thanks for trying AG Sally Yates. Take it as a compliment that he doesn't consider you a part of his immoral low ball team. I know I trust you even more now!

Why is everyone jumping? If one does not take orders from an elected/appointed leader then it is called dereliction of duty and thus has to go. Simple. If it happens to you as a leader of a department or company what would you do? Why don't you try it on your boss if you don't agree to your bonus payout or your time off.

Yes, Yates was appointed by President Obama" to her former position as Deputy Attorney General. But her elevation to Acting Attorney General was at the request of President Trump, who asked her to take charge of the Department of Justice until his pick for the position could be confirmed. The nation's chief law enforcement officer voiced her well-grounded objections to a legally tenuous policy, and because he didn't like what he heard, he axed her. In this president's White House, dissent is equivalent to betrayal, and Trump's willingness to rid himself of dissidents is a direct threat to the checks and balances on presidential power that are vital to this country's model of divided federal government." http://www.gq.com/story/trump-attorney-general-fired?mbid=social_facebook

I had no idea it was so easy for an american president to become a dictator. Looks like he has all the power, has to listen to noone. This is scary. He's joining a group that consists of Kim Yong Un, Erdogan, Putin and the likes

Trump did not single out those countries by name in his Executive Order. He simply adopted the Obama Administration’s list of “countries of concern.” It was Obama who highlighted them initially. Trump just took the next logical step.

If you can't perform your sworn duty...you honor what's best of America by standing by your convictions...and saying"no". The office is 'Attorney General of the United States' not 'Rubber Stamp for Donald Trump'!

, those who are saying it by Elites checks and balance. Are you able to name three branches of government? If so under what branch of government does the Attorney General come under? Think before you write
