Online, lies and truth look the same. This has been a boon for professional liars, who take advantage of the fact that two-thirds of Americans get their news from social media, and use these platforms to market falsehoods—as moneymaking ventures (paranoid fantasies make excellent clickbait); as vehicles of personal fame; or, for foreign powers like China and Russia, as a way to spread propaganda in hopes of influencing voters and thereby our elections.http://time.com/5475490/writers-truth-democracy-jennifer-egan/?utm_campaign=time&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=socialflowfb&xid=time_socialflow_facebook&fbclid=IwAR3Fo7ARRdo4QLfIAITw_B7GaYMJaJaXQfR2ZW1CO1mEdTb0Df976EMJ7ZM

I believe that what we need are honest writers who work with integrity.

Okay, I’m game. I believe in pro-life, legal immigration, if someone wants to have a howitzer and is stable enough to own it, let him have it. Drug testing for welfare recipients, and States rights just to name a few. Can I have a job?

Where's the story on all the democrats who didn't show up to the emergency climate change meeting? More Republicans showed up than democrats. Where's that story?

Unfortunately, today's journalist and MSM are so biased, all you get are editorials.

Writers should relay information, not make it up.

We don’t just need writers. We need journalists who know what bias looks like, especially in their own work. We need opinion writers who have done their research and show the world that an opinion need only come from knowing enough about something to be able to speak on it. We need social media activists who don’t use it to belittle opposite genders, religions, viewpoints and people. We need writers who are willing to see both sides and talk about them. We need writers who inspire, not instigate, irritate or anger for selfish vendettas and greedy intentions.

Indeed. And we need truth and honesty but overall we need human decency. We need to ask the hard questions and recognize when we’re wrong.
We don’t need to omit facts out of fear. We don’t need to add details that have nothing to do with the story (bias). We don’t need more writers who don’t understand that your words matter. What you do matters. When you speak, take responsibility, be informed and leave the petulant drama to reality tv. Oh and we don’t need more clickbait headlines, “breaking news” that is obviously not and rushing to be first to report before the facts are straight.

Opinionated articles are not facts.
