The first women’s varsity match between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge was played on 10 March, 1988 in Oxford. Now in its 32nd edition, Twickenham will host the fixture for the fourth time.

Cambridge won the 2017 game 24-0, although Oxford has won 19 of the 31 previous matches.

The ‘player of the match’ will be awarded the Bunting-Peggers trophy, named after the first captains of the fixture in 1988.

30 minutes to kick-off - it had been an early start for both these teams but looking forward to a great game. I have seen a huge improvement in the skills level of women's rugby and was in Dubai last week for the 7s. New Zealand won the main competition but the number of all women teams just shows how far the game has grown. One discussion that always provoked comment is should women play with a slightly smaller rugby ball ? I believe it would improved the game. I would not necessarily drop to a size 4 but a 4.5 may suit? Let me know your thoughts?

10 minutes gone and it is 0-0. Turnovers have been prevalent but Oxford just edging the opening period.

Abby D'Cruz the Oxford Captain who plays in the centre has really caught the eye. She is Australian born and showing great pace and handling skills. Oxford putting pressure on Cambridge upfront.

Cambridge open the scoring in the women's varsity match. Winning her 3rd blue Emily Pratt scores from close range. The No 8 did really well. Oxford will want to respond having had the better of the opening 30 mins but it is all about taking your chances and the opening score will give the light blues plenty of confidence!

Oxford putting real pressure on Cambridge with minutes to go until 1/2 time but once again Cambridge flooding the contact area and their defensive line speed is very effective
