Too many people are ignorant and unaware of the seriousness of a mental disorder. It shocks me that some even find it amusing! I think people suffering from a mental illness are probably the strongest people alive. Having to fight a constant battle in your head every single day can be tiring

As someone who's been fighting depression for a few years now - I have perfected the art of being okay on the surface. What a lot of people don't realize is that everything is a fight, a fight to get out of bed, a fight to care of family and friends - it's draining

Hey everyone. my younger sister was recently diagnosed with clinical depression and I'm not too sure how to handle it without making things a bit weird. Any advise and tips?

Hi Richard, i think it's cool that you're keen to find out more to help your sister. thats a pretty difficult thing to answer though because everyone has different triggers you know. like fo me, i find it annoying when people ask me how im doing all the time because obviously im not well. some people want that. its really just about understanding your sister and stuff. hope that helps :)

It's so important to be sympathetic. People are calling Kanye West crazy and just because he's a well-known personality they think this affects him differently and that's not ok. My only advise would be to seek professional help and if you can't afford to do so - talk to someone you trust or get a journal but you need to find a coping mechanism to let it out

There's definitely an undeniable stigma in terms of mental illnesses perhaps because it's not a physical ailment so it just seems a bit taboo. These are conversations that we need to have, even more in the black community where people just brush it of or think its a moodswing

I should've provided this definition earlier but hey - here goes:"Mental illness refers to a wide range of mental health conditions — disorders that affect your mood, thinking and behavior. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors. Many people have mental health concerns from time to time"

Just an online definition that I think will be helpful because mental illnesses doesn't only refer to depression and bipolar
