The piece of performance art encouraged the public to say"He will not divide us" into a camera mounted outside the Museum of the Moving Image in New York.

This is appalling. For a museum to shut down a protest piece is pure censorship, and is completely against the fundamental purpose of art, which is expression and communication of the self.

Probably the right thing to do seeing as he was physically attacking people.

Thought this was a tech source, not a political place. All this page does is bash Trump anymore.

So free speech is ok when it was threats and hate spouted to one side, but not when hate and threats were being spouted tot he other side. I get it...

It was shut down because neo nazis highjacked the stream and began spewing propaganda and advertising alt right radio sites. The museum also had threats of violence sent to them because of the stream. Shia may have been arrested for assault but that was only part of a much bigger issue for the museum.

If a positive message is a public safety concern, one must ask themselves how ever did society reach a state of being in which coming together would pull them apart? Fear.

I get that Shia's previous attempts at performance art may have not been that successful. Yet, I personally really admire some of the pieces that he has done, including this one. It really is sad that people cannot express themselves artistically, if it is against those in power. It is called political art for a reason, and people should not be so sensitive about it. If we can openly rant about Trump on social media, we should be able to express it in the outside world too. Does anyone know which Museum this was, and if they gave a statement?
