Not at all. Well, at least, not in this generation. I would say, that it is probably the most common outlet of personal expression, and how the self chooses to be represented.

Every second person either has tattoos or piercings. It has not only been embraced, but encouraged, as a form of defining and expressing your identity, in today's' society.

I have several tattoos and piercings, and it seems to be accepted within everyday society, besides the occasional exception. These exceptions are from the older generations, that still find it"tacky" and will prevent me from finding a husband, or being a good wife and mother. Otherwise, the people that I meet, often, admire the work done, and ask for the story behind it. Which I really enjoy.
