Some fear that the law might backfire, penalising women in a country where they are already struggling to participate in the workforce. If women were granted extra days of paid leave, employers could become even more oriented to hire men rather than women.

Some women would use it to their advantage even if they don't get menstrual pains. It could lead to abuse of leaves.

This is so considerate. Women deserve this kind of treatment.

Oh, how I wish I am a woman living in Italy. :-D

Some said the idea encouraged equality by accommodating workers’ biological needs, while others said the idea could reinforce stigma towards menstruation or even contribute to discrimination against women on the career ladder.

Women deserve to have off days when they're experiencing pains. They wouldn't be productive at work anyway. They might as well rest at home.

Women in Italy don't have a high percentage in the work force. Companies even fire them once they're pregnant or about to give birth.

I am glad I am not a woman. Imagine having this cycle monthly and suffer the pain. They deserve some special treatment during this period I think. :-D

Women do get menstrual pains so it would be better for them to stay home and get some rest if they can't function properly at work.

Women would be better off at home during their periods. They're cranky and very irritable so might as well get out of their site.

This might work against women because companies might hire more men because it will be more beneficial to their company. More leaves would mean more expense for the company.

It depends if you have Bad menstruations or not

If we want employers to think twice before hiring a female, then perhaps

So let's say an office has 5 female employees....all of which have their periods at the same times (it happens)....all take 3 days off at the same time.....(it is their right-can't deny them)...how does the business operate? This sounds like complete fuckery.

Right on!

I definitely think this is a great idea. Periods are more than just bleeding. It's bleeding AND cramp, headaches, lethargy, depression, hunger cravings, unstable moods... I could go on for a while. When I'm on my period, I literally do not want to move. Your productivity plummets, it's a time where rest is needed because it's so damned exhausting.

I don't know why a business should be required to pay for this.
