The earth has a strange way of taking care of its self. If we are living to long and there are too many people on earth, the earth will purge itself. All it takes is one asteroid and the numbers go way down.

Yes, but you are placing a seeming 'intent' on natural disasters, as if an asteroid wouldn't hit the earth if human populations were completely in check.

I believe the issue is that humans have engineered means to break free of the normal resource scarcities that restrain all other species.

The earth does not need man to control the population. In due time it will purge just like before.
