Children should learn about responsibility, such as caring for a pet, according to Nelson. At-home or outside activities can help teach responsibility, similar to a chore. Nelson believes learning responsibility helps prepare younger students for homework in higher grades.

This was posted in a FB group the other day and caused so much outrage! I agree with this policy, however. After 8 hours of school with only one recess elementary school students need to be done for the day.

I believe that as parents we should be working with our children to aid them in their studies. But, homework should be kept at a minimum. It has been proven time and time again, that our brains work better when they have a break.

College students have homework, what will the kids think when they are told further your education but you have this thing called home work. Some jobs even require"homework".

One thing that REALLY gets on my nerves is when teachers assign a project to be completed over a school break..like spring and/or fall break etc.

Anything that is going to benefit the children should be explored. I think some kids get something out of homework but for the most part kids do not need it on a constant basis.

I am happy for my children to have reading or spelling words for homework.

If you send homework home to a student that has parents that cannot help them what good is the work. Parents send kids to school to learn not the other way around.

Homework is stressful. A 2002 study showed a direct relationship between time on homework and increased anxiety, depression, anger, and other mood disturbances among students.

In spite of the research showing homework undermines learning and disrupts childhood, it possesses a symbolic value that demonstrates a commitment to higher standards and work ethic.
