No. The death penalty was taken away partly due to the fact that it was a completely ineffective way of preventing crime, and in actual fact, perpetuated and increased the level of murder.

I don't think death penalty can really lower the crime rate. Criminals are criminals. Their mentality is different. They are never thinking that they will ever be caught.

The sad truth is nothing can really stop bad people from doing wrong. For them it is for their survival. They are no longer being dictated by their conscience. They just act based on their needs.
