I think that the first thing that we can do, is lead by example when thy are younger. How can we encourage positive self image to our children, while frowning at yourself in the mirror at the same time.

There should be more classes on self-esteem development at school. Life Orientation as a subject is a joke and does not teach kids the essential skills of self-respect, and self-worth. More time and effort needs to be put into the self within the education system.

Definitely through an educational system that places more efficacy on self esteem, and less on The Roman Empire, or getting an A for Maths.

Always find something good to say about them. They may be criticized but always make sure you notice the good things that they do. It makes them feel appreciated.

Let them do something they like for them to excel and feel confident. Always make sure that the small things they do get noticed and they're always acknowledged.

Always encourage them to try and do things on their own. If they do fail, be there to comfort and support them so they feel loved.

Show them that they have good qualities to be proud of. They need to feel self worth and learn to love themselves.

Kids need to feel loved and secure. They need constant reassurance when they fail. They also need attention.

Encourage them to do and try things out. Children need to feel that they can do things by themselves to feel they are capable of something. Being good at something can help them feel great about themselves.

You just need to let the kids know you'll always be there for them.

I always give out compliments to my nephews and nieces once in a while. Good job or nice work is what I usually tell them.

Yes, especially during their failures.

Agree. If the kids know that their parents are behind them all the way then I think it would help them conquer anything.

Yes. Best thing you can do for your kids. Most parents are not there when the kids need them the most.

Parents should always spend time with their kids and know what's going on. Let the kids know that they have a friend in you. They need to feel that they can confide and be real with you.

True. They need someone to be always there to cheer them up, comfort or just listen to them.
