Summer vacations are now in the rear view mirror, meaning it is holiday-related travel coming up down the road. Around the USA, many families will begin planning for both Thanksgiving and Christmas getaways. Google Trips, a new app for Android and iOS, is designed to help people plan their trips, with a focus on offline use for when someone is without an internet connection. Keep in mind, it will work for all travel -- not just holiday related plans.

I wonder do they have a foodie aspect to this app? My favorite part of traveling is sampling different types of food along the way.

Pretty soon they will be telling you what to eat. They learn your habits find similar food in the area and blast you with advertisement from those companies. Eventually even without know you will want to eat that food. That is how they control our minds.

I like to be informed when I travel, but not too much. sometimes information can hamper the element of surprise when visiting a new country.

Google Trips is a personalized tour guide in your pocket. Each trip contains key categories of information, including day plans, reservations, things to do, food and drink, and more, so you have everything you need at your fingertips. The entire app is available offline -- simply tap the 'Download' button under each trip to save it to your phone", says Stefan Frank, Product Manager, Google Trips.

For the top 200 cities in the world, Google Trips shows you a variety of day plans featuring the most popular daily itineraries. We’ve automatically assembled the most popular sights, attractions, and local gems into a full day’s tour — all based on historic visits by other travelers. Say you’re visiting Barcelona. You can choose from multiple day plans, like “Eixample District,” which maps out the can’t-miss buildings by Antoni Gaudi, the famous Spanish architect.

Google today introduced Trips, a new app that lets you manage and organize everything about your vacations in one place. The app tries to solve a big pain point with international travel — Internet access — by automatically storing all your trip information offline, and it also makes suggestions during your trip based on what’s nearby to craft the perfect day plans…

I wish the testers would have pushed for this to be integrated into Google Maps and have collaborative trip planning and sharing of trips with others.

The most obvious feature of this app is that your trip reservations are automatically gathered from your Gmail account and stored offline (if you have an Android phone, you’re already used to Google Now helping you with this). The app automatically turns this information into “Trips” within the app, and then you can dive deeper and plan activities for each.

Users can specify which area they want to explore, how much time they have, and select any attractions they particularly want to visit, and Google Trips will create an itinerary and plot it on a map.
