Of course it is an art, it is a way of expression, it doesn't matter if it's a good thing' it's still art.

Graffiti is mostly just words or names of gangs painted somewhere they shouldn't be. It's an illegal act so I don't consider it a work of art, though sometimes I would consider it. For instance, take a few fans of Robin Williams after he died for instance. They spray painted him on a wall somewhere.

Done on property belonging to others, it's vandalism, in any form. Most of it is just scribbles by people with the artistic ability of a lower primate, for the purpose of marking territory. They probably urinate on it to, no surprise there.

This is absolutely beautiful art. The only reason it is called graffiti is because the artist doing it did not get permission. They are the same as murals. I have seen graffiti on subway walls that would put the best mural artist to shame. Believe it or not there are plenty of world recognized graffiti artists. They are not considered any less of an artist than a sculpture or a painter. I do understand that a lot of graffiti does come from kids marking territory, but that is not the full extent to what graffiti truly is.
