The app first grabbed attention in the summer when it raced up Android and iOS app store rankings in Korea, Japan and China, collecting some 30 million downloads. A feature story from The New York Times in July, which explained that Snow and Naver were exploiting Snapchat’s apparent lack of interest in Asia, only served to heighten awareness of the app.

Facebook is promoting it's live feature to knock out You Tube uploads. I am not surprised about the snap chat venture. I guess I am old, but what is the need for live real time updates?

I think Facebook just want the data from snow. This 80 million users is a lot to add to their database. I don't use snapchat but was watching a friend the other day and was surprised to see a facial recognition scan. Where is this data Going? to the highest bidder of course.

Many of the features Facebook has added over the past couple of years and plans to add have been described as Snapchat-like. Back in September, Naver invested $45 million in Snow, which features the kind of filters and stickers that have been popular with Snapchat users.

There is, however, one company that the firm can’t seem to match right now and that’s Snapchat. Facebook is now trying to offer similar features to the fun filters and effects that have bought so many new users to Snapchat as well as kept those looking to str.

I can see in the future that Facebook will own all of these apps. They have the money and the marketing to make any app a hit.
