That is the way my mom taught me. We try to buy clothes that do not have an dye in them but you can never really tell these days so we wash everything before putting it on our bodies.

That dress looks perfect right off the rack, and that crisp button-down shirt is never going to be any brighter or whiter than the moment you buy it. So is it really necessary to go to all of the trouble of washing those brand-new garments before you wear them for the first time?

I agree! Jeans never look the same after the first wash.

Even with garments that label their provenance, many include materials that were made in one country, dyed in another and stitched together in a third, each with varying laws about allowable levels of chemical use.

American Hogue, who has worked in the clothing industry for more than 30 years, warns that all of the above can be a nightmare for people with sensitive skin and flare up conditions such as dermatitis.

As for the other stuff, we get it: Spending time washing your new clothes instead of promptly showing them off at the bar or barre class is a bit of a buzzkill. But it's worth it. Quelling the instant gratification urge is a small price to pay if you don't want to expose yourself to unknown chemicals, or walk around sporting a brand-new rash along with your brand-new clothes.

Definitely, but I will admit that when I was in High School I did not and my mom would yell at me. I think my son does the same sometimes. Family Traditions!

I know that I should just don't have the time to do it all the time. Why don't they wash it after the put all the chemicals on it? Since we know that it is bad I think they should be held responsible.

But there are some trusty wardrobe mainstays you won't need to put in your laundry basket on a regular basis. A moment of silence please for the always reliable jeans, which last for five wears, and our favourite comfy jumpers which can be worn as many as seven times before going in the wash.

Most of us love new clothes. They are"perfect" - colors are bright, lines are crisp and pristine. So why would you wash them and risk changing the look before you wear them?

I always wash my towels and face cloths but that is about it. Regular clothes I just throw them on.
