Treat your cats for fleas, get their veterinary check ups, make sure their vaccines are up to date, keep things clean. I'm not about to stop hugging and kissing my"baby", but then I do all I can to keep her healthy.

I've been scratched and bitten COUNTLESS times by pets and feral cats both, and *amazingly* never contracted cat scratch fever. It's just like anything else, if a scratch or bite wound looks red and inflamed, use common sense and get antibiotics from your doctor! This article is completely ridiculous.

I have been a kitten foster since 2011 and never been sick or had Allergies from any animal. So in my experience, it hasn't been true whatsoever. I'm still alive :)

I got cat scratch fever...a tiny little innocent scratch. Not fun! I got so sick and my hand was the size of a football. It's real. Whether you owned cats for 30 years and get them treated by vets. Fleas are now becoming immune to all those meds.

Its not fair to creat such a panick over something that can be prevented, just by simply doing your job as a pet parent, and take care of your cat's or dog's for that matter.

I've had many cats over the yrs and never had this sickness from any of them, all indoor cats, taken regularly to the vet and brushed at times bathed.

Kittens and strays are more likely to carry the disease. The disease is spread when you are scratched by an infected cat, or when you don't wash your hands and touch your mouth after stroking an infected cat.

The best way to prevent cat-scratch disease is to wash your hands after playing, cuddling or petting a cat, avoid rough-housing with the cat to eliminate hard scratches, have the cat's nails trimmed regularly and ask your vet for the best products to combat fleas.

About 40 percent of cats carry the bacteria Bartonella henselae that causes the disease, which comes from flea bites getting in their wounds, from scratching and biting fleas or fighting with other infected cats. Infected cats commonly show no symptoms.
