Why would Trump care about Africa? The answer is simple: China. If Trump is serious about China, as he has ostensibly touted on the campaign trail and via twitter, if he is determined to flex his muscles against China, he should first challenge the rising power of the Red Dragon in Africa. That’s because Africa has served as China’s economic launching pad for over two decades. Africa has fueled and will continue to fuel China’s booming industries for several decades to come. With the US economic presence in Africa receding, China has occupied the void and driven competition out, including many European companies and investors.

For the past eight years Africa has been relegated to the back burner of US foreign policy. President Obama, whose father hailed from Kenya, elicited high expectations when he came to office and was seen, initially, as a potential champion for African causes.

It doesn't matter who's the president of the United States, no one cares about Africa. No one will save Africa besides its own people. Even though Africans have their independence they're still controlled by France, Britain etc... African president are just puppets they execute orders coming from their master. I feel so sorry for the African people.

It doesn't matter whether trump or any other leader become president of USA , it is equally wrong to count on Chinese leaders to oversee the future of African nations , competition between western countries and China will continue, they are hunting for oil and mineral resources or other cheap raw materials such as cola, sesame , Gum Arabic or other oil seeds or livestock products , they also seek opportunities for marketing their manufactured products , it's a chain of exploration, Africa is a source of cheap raw materials and a market for industrial countries. The only way to break down such an exploration, is launch an industrialization strategy within African countries and to boost economic integration within African regional groupings such as COMESA, SADC, ECOWAS....etc. dealing with advanced countries on equal foots will pave the way for further development. Thanks to USA Europe and China, we don't want foreign aid , just open your markets for our goods and invest in african growing manufacturing sector, this is a mutual gain , African leaders must not forger the golden base : just invest in African infrastructure such as roads, railways , airports, bridges , telecommunications, etc. Economic development will be achieved . The most important issue to be considered here is that we have to work hard I'm conflict management and peace resolutions , let's integrate and open up the doors between African countries, I am proud being African, I love to visit Zambia, I missed the warm heart of Africa Malawi, I enjoy Egyptians Cairo city center , I love Ghana, cote d'ivore, Kenya , Uganda, Morocco, South Africa, Ethiopia and my beloved country sudan, these are the countries I visited within Africa and always feel great , we need much more efforts to cross African borders without restrictions . Free movement of goods and people , much more integrations means huge market and bright future for the generations to come .

Africa does not need Trump. Africans need Africans to start putting Africans first. Do not sell Africa raw materials to the western countries for chicken coins, let us see how they will make America great again. Let Africans say not with our raw materials. The rich western countries will eat their technology if they don't develope & process our raw materials in Africa. Africans must rise from the grassroots like the women in USA are doing now. Africa rise up!!!

The reason why the economy of Africa remains stagnant is not because nobody frm the outside hav showed up with great commitment to transform Africa, its because we Africans are too shortsighted, its because we africans lack good coordination and its because we lack confidence.Africa is a land that was uniquely blessed with alot of potential. We Africans are responsible for our own game

That why the West does respect Africa, the people need to use their imagination, unless they don't have any. Stop focusing on material things, stealing, and do things collectively.

Unless American companies can outbid Chinese parastatals, there's not going to be much competition no matter who the president of America is...Now if we want to talk about USAID and PEPFAR money, then that's another discussion entirely.

Fair point. The Obama administration's sticking point with Africa was that potential deal strings were always attached to human rights; China could care less about human rights, which is why they had an in. African leaders don't like to be lectured over human rights, especially by the USA. I suspect, though, that Trump probably cares even less about human rights than China. Don't expect it to come up in any trade/aid deals a Trump administration proposes.

A few African countries that matter as far as US interests are concerned will be payed attention to, the rest who are of no use will be ignored, that's how the game is played

This is the crappiest news piece I have read in a while. So the compelling reasons that CNN offers is that we're a danger to ourselves and the rest of the world? That our only value lies in the competition between two competing world powers? It is another form of savior propaganda.

President Donald Trump should ensure that Nigeria holds a referendum to determine if its constituent parts still wish to live together as one country. By ensuring that a referendum holds, he would be writing his name permanently in gold as he would have saved the influx of refugees from the present Nigeria into other African countries, Europe and America. It would be a big achievement for President Trump. I have a feeling that before his first term runs out Nigeria would have split to five countries if the present leaders do nothing to douse the current disaffection by restructuring the country. Restructuring and ensuring full fiscal federalism is the only remedy to the disintegration of Nigeria.

Trump is a nemesis to Africa's existence. The The protectionist policies will do Africa no good. Africans should look elsewhere for whatever assistance they need.

The Cruelest thing that Slavery and Colonialism did to the Africans was to destroy their memory of what they were before foreign contact

We as Africans, really know ourselves more than the pretenders who think they know us better than we do ourselves. So Trump's administration will be centered in America not Africa and no one can move in your shoes more than you do yourself. Proudly African.

I don't thank Africa needs handouts from US government we've enough resources but are poorly managed by corrupt n greedy leaders. If our mineral resources are managed well. We shall stop begging developed countries. Maybe #Trump will help us to push out African dictators who're plundering its resources.
