Have family members open up about “crucible moments” — these are the moments that changed us and made us who we are. Everyone has one, and it’s always a great story. Have everyone tell their story at a family gathering so people can really get to know each other.

Do you this is a great idea and would you do this as your family gathering?

I wouldn't share any personal information to just any family member. It's not everybody's business and your relationship should not be based on having this"shared" moment. Family is family. That should be enough.

This is weird. I don't think you need any gimmicks like this to be close to family. You just need to make an effort to be there.

I think it is a good idea. It would make people talk about something other than gossip. However, it'll be difficult to do this in a very large gathering because it'll be harder to get everyone to cooperate. Maybe I'd try this in an intimate family gathering.

Yeah, you really need to plan an activity or else you end up just chatting the same topics over and over again.

We do virtual family reunions for those family members who aren't present. It's a great way for us to catch up and really connect with family.

Family gatherings are torture for me! I'd rather not share anything they don't know about me because they're nosey enough as it is. I just show up because I have to.

Our family is not like that. We hardly talk and if we do, it's about some random thing. I have given up hope that our family will be as close as the others.

We do the 'Never have I ever' game every Christmas. It is fun, easy and no preparation needed.

That doesn't work for us. What I find works is taking a family vacation together at least once a year. The shared experience and the memories is worth the challenges.

This is nuts! I think this is a bit embarrassing to do during family gatherings.

I hate dealing with family. I try to avoid family gatherings as much as possible.
