China dramatically escalated its investment in rural sustainability from 1998 and through to 2015, more than US$350 billion was invested in 16 sustainability programs, addressing more than 620 million hectares.

After 20 years, the results are overwhelmingly positive. Deforestation declined and forest cover exceeds 22%. Grasslands expanded and regenerated and desertification have reversed in many areas, and while mostly driven by climatic change, restoration efforts have helped.

Is that amazing? What can we learn from China? How can you contribute to protecting the environment?

This is really good news from China. Practically everything I own has a mark 'Made in China' in it. This shows how big of an influence they can be to other countries. I hope they continue to realize the importance of the environment and how their next generations will suffer if they don't continue to protect it.

I've been to China and the pollution is really bad. People have to wear masks when they are walking outside. It is really a shame because they have some very nice scenery and awesome structures that I would have wanted to see. I am glad China is taking measures to protect its environment. Maybe next time, I can go back to see the Great Wall.

Based on a news I read recently, China is making more stricter goals on cleaning up the environment. It has so far exceeded its goal so the current government is making them stricter. I applaud their government on this. If they continue to exceed their goals, China would be a more pleasant country to live in.

I know what you. I've had clients visit outside of China and they are surprised to experience the sunlight and sunshine for the first time. It's funny and sad at the same time.

I have never been to China but I have heard how terrible the air quality is. I am glad they are finally stepping up but it's sad that they had to wait for it to get that bad before doing anything. It's a lesson for all of us.

I think that it's human nature to wait at the last possible moment before doing anything. It's better late than never.

China plans to cut sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions by 3 per cent and push polluting industries and diesel trucks to cut emissions which is good. They're now looking into ways to lessen the pollution.

China is the world's top polluter, where 40 years of breakneck growth have contaminated its farmland, rivers and air. With all the different industries in China, it's no shock they're on top of the list.

China is the world's biggest consumer of coal and has also cut its consumption of the fossil fuel by 8.1 per cent, and increased its clean energy production by 6.3 per cent.

Alright China!!! The other countries should follow suit! It's never too late.

I think it's a little late for that. People have had health issues for a long time because of the smog in the city.

That maybe but at least they are doing something to prevent more health issues.

I agree with Emma! Better late than nothing.
