I think that being selfish can improve a society, in the sense that a community cannot grow as a whole if there is no individual development, which is the direct result of caring about the ego and self development. Not to the expense of those around us, but to make our lives important enough to be separated from the masses.

Childishness is not a prudence and will never be an ethicalness. Self-intrigue is not self-centeredness. There's no motivation behind why we have to manhandle words and extend their implications past all acknowledgment.

Nothing is wrong about being selfish for as long as you are not doing any harm to other people. Besides, you should learn to love yourself completely before you can be in a position to be able to help others.

Yes, when understood and applied correctly, ego could be a good thing. Anything in moderation is good.

Ego is defined as the most central part of the mind, which mediates with one’s surroundings. The ego is meant to be our window to the world around us–a neutral and extremely useful source of information about what’s happening.

I would imagine that a purely selfless person would get sick and die due to never taking care of themself. We all need at least a little self interest in order to survive and care for others.

I don't see how it could.

Selfishness can never be a good thing unless you want to be alone forever.

I can where some people might see that it's important to love oneself but selfishness has a boundary.

If there's a grenade inside a room full of a hundred people, and I try to contain it to myself so others won't get hurt, is it selfishness?
