Whether you see artificial intelligence as positive or negative, the reality is that it is coming to change the landscape of the workplace. In order to adapt to these changes and incorporate AI successfully into existing business models, corporations and educational institutions will need to figure out how to balance the combined powers of artificial and human intelligence.

Great interview, I love Steve Pinker. Not sure about the comments on terrorism and a some on AI. If I’m not mistaken (and not trying to prejudge childfree Pinker), there’s something about not having kids that may hinder the assessment of ‘long-term’ risks.

The way I see it, Steven Pinker thinks AI will be like a machine which only does what we tell it to do, but the whole point of developing AI is to create a machine which does more than what we specify.

Doomsday is hot. For decades, we have been terrified by dreadful visions of civilization-ending overpopulation, resource shortages, pollution and nuclear war. But recently, the list of existential menaces has ballooned.

We now have been told to worry about nanobots that will engulf us, robots that will enslave us, artificial intelligence that will turn us into raw materials and teenagers who will brew a genocidal virus or take down the internet from their bedrooms

AI could be the best or the worst event in the history of civilization. It brings dangers, like powerful autonomous weapons, or new ways for the few to oppress the many. It could bring great disruption to our economy

I like Steven Pinker’s way of thinking. Disagree a little on terrorism but agree a lot on AI.

Finally someone speaking some sense about the ridiculous hypothetical paperclip threat of AI. He beautifully articulated my thoughts that an AGI wouldn't be very intelligent at all if it were to blindly turn the universe into paperclips.
