Some argue that uniforms are necessary because they provide a sense of equality and reduce class barriers

I do agree, however, I don't think that it is necessary to have such strict uniforms enforced so relentlessly. For instance, I think that you should be able to wear makeup and jewellery, and the freedom to do whatever you want with your hair and nails etc. I think that it is very important to allow, and encourage self expression and identity, especially at an age, and time in your life, where you are forming a sense of self.

Wearing a uniform at school banned any form of creativity and self expression. It makes you feel like just another number, and not an individual, which, I think, stunts personal growth and a sense of self.

They create a sense of belonging and equality, yet they should not be at the expense of individual growth and expression.

I think uniform restricts person's ability to express themselves so while it is practical, uniforms should be junked.

agree! kids need the opportunity to find out who they are and uniforms won't help.

Every one has a good point here and I believe the decision rests on the parents on where to send their kids to school and if uniform is a factor for that.

fair point but it's expensive and if the parent's can't sustain the cost, it might not be good in the long run. Maybe provide a weekly casual day wherein kids can wear what they want to school.

i believe the uniforms are necessary to avoid envy and jealousy over materialistic things so kids can concentrate on actual learning. self expression through clothes can be done during high education like college.

I know what you mean! When I was growing up, girls are more interested with the latest trends more than the homework. It's sad so I am voting for uniforms.
