SINGAPORE (THE BUSINESS TIMES) - Many a bus has trundled up north across the Causeway, carrying Singaporeans in search of an unusual treasure: plentiful supply of the fruit with pungent yellow flesh inside a thorny chassis.

Michael Syn, who heads the derivatives segment at the Singapore Exchange, has gone one step further. The 47-year-old four years ago bought a durian plantation in Johor with some friends, with the group of five ploughing in some S$2.5 million altogether.https://www.straitstimes.com/business/durian-dash-how-investors-are-eyeing-the-worlds-most-controversial-fruit

Wow! This can really give Malaysian farmers and investors a great gain. Who would have thought that this fruit will be in demand like this.

In a local Asian Supermarket one fresh Durian costs over $100 CAD. Who can afford that?...It was $10/lb. The fruit was 12lb. 😏

I love eating durian and it’s so satisfying to look at durians being peeled and removed of their seeds.

What kind of bad smell is it? Like bad milk, or garbage? What does it taste like? Citrus? Banana?

It smells like a pungent gas leak. And tastes like mango with gasoline.

As for the taste it's not worth the smell.

Hi! I am Chinese and I also love eating durian with my family. At first I didn't like it because of its smell but later on I become fond of it. Durians are really smooth, tasty, and very nourishing as well.
