Our Lady of Lourdes celebrates its 160th Anniversary and may religious devotees flocked to this most popular pilgrimage site especially on its 160th year. The pilgrimage to Mecca is another popular one. Have you gone on a pilgrimage? Would you want to? Which one would you want to go to?

I have never understood why people felt compelled to do pilgrimages. It's hard and tedious and are you any better after you complete it? Please share your experience and enlighten me.

This is something I would never do. It's a waste of time! If God was an understanding God, he would understand that devotion and faith does not come from pilgrimages. There other things that better deserve your time that can benefit others because this benefits nobody except retailers and merchants.

It's part of my religion to do a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in my lifetime and I am not sure if other religions are also required. I am not a practicing Muslim so I am not sure if I want to do it or why I have to do it.

Pilgrimages are terribly inconvenient. You give up time, money, and comfort. In some cases you give up safety.

Their faith is more than that. We can't understand their devotion because we have a different belief.

I agree. I can never understand those too. I guess there lies the sacrifice.

Pilgrimages have different meanings for different people. Share what they mean to you and if you think they're important.

A pilgrim must be grateful for what they receive and not demanding. That can be difficult as things may not always be to your liking.

By studying in such spiritually vibrant holy places, even for short periods of time, or by taking bath in the spiritually powerful rivers, such experiences will purify and enliven us and give us a deeper understanding of how to live a spiritual lifestyle

A reason I think is to meet other saintly people who follow a spiritual path and see how they live. This is especially the case with saints and sages who can help us by giving their association and sharing their spiritual knowledge and realizations.

This is a tradition that is believed by a lot of people. I respect those people though don't really participate in one. It probably has done good to all the believers.

Tours like this can give us an everlasting impression that will inspire us for years to come, maybe even for the rest of our lives! Such an opportunity may not happen often, even after many lifetimes, so if such a possibility does come into our lives, we should seriously take advantage of it.
