Obviously, it's long term investments. Short term investments do not pay that well so you are better off with long term investments - at least 5 years.

I agree but not all long term investments are created equal. It's important to diversify though so it's nice to have short term investments as well.

I never know what will happen tomorrow so I hesitate to make long term investments.

When investing long-term, you are able to be more aggressive, so you could opt to invest in an aggressive mutual fund to get the highest rate of return.
