I personally want to see more Mission Impossible. The sequels so far are still exciting and good but how long will it last? I think they should quit while they are ahead though and I think Tom Cruise is too old for the franchise.

I also love the Marvel franchise. Some sequels work and some don't. I don't think it's dependent on the director though but it helps. I go more for the story arc than anything else. How about you?

Spiderman 2 is a good one. They added Doc Ock, which made it more interesting. Also, the drama between spiderman and Mary Jane also is a plus.

I battled with the last Avengers movie because I hadn't seen the first one, and there was just so many characters appearing (and dying) that I got completely confused

Well, the producers want to maximize their profits and the people want to see more too particularly those who followed the movie from the very beginning.

Movie sequels suck! The plot gets shallower and dumber as the sequel goes on and on.

The movie industry is a money-making industry. They'll try to ride on to the fanfare for as long as they can. Truly understandable.

That's right. They make movies to make money anyway.

True true. You'd want to maximize it but don't you think they should quit while they are ahead? Before long, you might not be able to recoup the cost of the last sequel.

Hollywood is always out to make money. If they can come up with something they'll milk it for all it's worth.

For a sequel to be good, it has to have a great new story. It might also need new characters, but the story is the priority.

As far as the comments I've seen several people make,"The sequel is about money", you should understand the original was about money, too. No one starts a meeting by going"maybe we'll just do the first movie to be nice.. we won't worry about the revenue until we start on the second".

These franchises have fans so they'll always have a following. The movie goers may complain that a sequel isn't that good but they'll still watch the next ones anyway.

Why would we think that a sequel would be any good? Just because the first film caught lightning in a bottle doesn't necessarily mean that the second one will. The biggest challenge for a sequel is to come up with a new story that's original and great. That's not easy.
